8 awesome iPhone apps

Zach Epstein, over on BGR, has a bad habit of posting lists of cool iPhone/iPad(/iPod Touch)(/Apple Watch) apps that are temporarily free.

Here’s the fine print:

These are paid iPhone and iPad apps that have been made available for free for a limited time by their developers. There is no way to tell how long they will be free. These sales could end an hour from now or a week from now – obviously, the only thing we can guarantee is that they were free at the time this post was written. If you click on a link and see a price listed next to an app instead of the word “get”, it is no longer free. The sale has ended. If you download the app, you will be charged.

Did You Know?

Knowing an iOS device’s serial number is useful for a wide variety of reasons, from checking warranty status, determining if it’s eligible for a free repair from Apple, checking unlock status, checking for iCloud Activation Lock, insurance purposes, repairs, registering a phone for a variety of services, amongst other reasons.

Have you ever needed to know that dratted thing? Paul Horowitz to the rescue! His post on OS X Daily yesterday (which starts above), How to Find the Serial Number of an iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch, gives you not one, but two ways to get the job done.

Do it. Before you need it. You never know…

Who are you and what do you do?

At The Sweet Setup:

Every week we try to post a new interview with someone about what software they use on their Mac, iPhone, or iPad. We do these interviews because not only are they fun, but a glimpse into what tools someone uses and how they use those tools can spark our imagination and give us an idea or insight into how we can do things better.

Today’s victim, er, interviewee:

My name is Brian Renshaw. I’m originally from Springfield, Illinois, but now reside in Louisville (that’s LOO-A-VUL), Kentucky. My main priority is my doctoral studies with a focus on the New Testament at Southern Seminary. I also work full-time as an Instructional Designer at the seminary. My main responsibilities are to work with the faculty to create online courses, but I also provide technical help with the LMS (Moodle) by answering questions, creating screencasts, and developing interactive tutorials. I also blog at my personal site with topics related to biblical studies, and also recently launched a site called Techademic. The latter site is my recent endeavor to create a reposity of helpful articles and screencasts related to technology, productivity, and academics.

You can catch Brian’s complete story here: Brian Renshaw’s Mac and iOS setup.

“Back issues” can be found here: Sweet Setup Interviews.

Apple Event Follow-Up

David Sparks, over at MacSparky, started out the morning thusly:

I’ve been thinking about the new Apple announcements at this week’s event and have a few random thoughts.

A couple of my favorites:

  • Lots of people are going to attack Apple for making a stylus. I disagree. A 13″ tablet is a much different animal than a phone and something that big can definitely use a stylus.

  • I had no idea watches with bands that go around twice are a “thing”. My daughter has subsequently set me right on that account.

PYBT: RANDOM THOUGHTS FOLLOWING THE APPLE EVENT for the whole list.
