Safety First for Bank Cards

This tip first appeared here about a year ago. It’s critical enough to repost:

(a year ago) Last week, Kim Zetter posted, on Wired, a short-but-informative piece, How to Protect Yourself From Big Bank-Card Hacks. See what you think about her suggestions.

Rumour Mill

AppleInsider’s Neil Hughes contributes to the Mill this morning:

Apple’s iMac lineup will gain a smaller 21.5-inch model with a 4K-resolution Retina display in the coming months, likely at the company’s annual October media event, a new report claims.

He continues:

Citing “reliable sources”, 9to5mac reported on Thursday that a new iMac with a screen resolution of 4,096 by 2,304 pixels will ship to consumers by the beginning of November. Evidence of the anticipated desktop has been growing thanks to configuration files hidden within Apple’s beta releases of OS X 10.11 El Capitan.…

for the rest, PYBT: Rumor: Apple to launch 21.5-inch iMac with 4K Retina display in October.

We shall see.

9 awesome iPhone apps

Zach Epstein, over on BGR, has a bad habit of posting lists of cool iPhone/iPad(/iPod Touch)(/Apple Watch) apps that are temporarily free.

Here’s the fine print:

These are paid iPhone and iPad apps that have been made available for free for a limited time by their developers. There is no way to tell how long they will be free. These sales could end an hour from now or a week from now – obviously, the only thing we can guarantee is that they were free at the time this post was written. If you click on a link and see a price listed next to an app instead of the word “get”, it is no longer free. The sale has ended. If you download the app, you will be charged.

iWidgets

Graphic from the article

BGR’s Zach Epstein reports this morning:

When Apple first added widget support to the iPhone and iPad, Apple fans had mixed feelings. Many Apple users had been waiting for widget support for years, and they had hoped to see home screen widgets similar to the ones available on Google’s Android platform. Instead, Apple confined its widget support to the Notification Center, where widgets stay hidden from sight until the user swipes down from the top of the screen.

There are definitely pros (battery life!) and cons (no zero-touch information) to Apple’s approach, but the very fact that widgets are almost always hidden from sight has led many people to forget about them all together. Let’s fix that: Here are 10 apps with some of the best iPhone widgets available right now, and many of them are completely free to download and use.

And here they are: 10 of the best iPhone widgets in the world
