Who are you and what do you do?

At The Sweet Setup:

Every week we try to post a new interview with someone about what software they use on their Mac, iPhone, or iPad. We do these interviews because not only are they fun, but a glimpse into what tools someone uses and how they use those tools can spark our imagination and give us an idea or insight into how we can do things better.

Today’s victim, er, interviewee:

I’m Joe Caiati. By day I troubleshoot and repair Apple products, from iPhone displays all the way to main logic boards in the new Mac Pro.

I spend the remainder of my time posting interesting things to my blog, writing articles when inspiration strikes, and keeping up with all things technology via Twitter and podcasts.

You can catch Joe’s complete story here: Joe Caiati’s sweet iPhone setup.

“Back issues” can be found here: Sweet Setup Interview.

Wired Ranks the Rumors

As Christina Bonnington reports in Wired:

Each week, there are dozens of rumors, reports, and patent filings that hint at what’s coming out of Cupertino next. Some are legit, but many are totally bogus. As always, we’ve parsed the rumors, ranking them in order from “utterly ridiculous” to “duh, of course”. First up…

DON’T COUNT ON IT: Photos Compare “iPhone 6” With 5s, HTC One

It, of course, gets better from there. PYBT: This Week’s Apple Rumors, Ranked From Dumbest to Most Plausible for all the juicy tidbits.

Find My iPhone

Andrew Cunningham reports on Ars Technica this morning:

One of the new features iOS 7 introduced was an upgrade to the Find My iPhone service called Activation Lock–in addition to tracking your phone, sending it messages, and wiping your data, any iOS device with Find My iPhone enabled now requires your Apple ID to reactivate it. Even if your phone is stolen, the thief can’t turn around and resell it as a new phone.

I LOVE this!! PYBT: iOS 7 Activation Lock cutting iPhone theft, damaging resale market for all of the gory details.

What Did the Little Birdie Say…

June 2014 iMac

…when his cage fell apart?

Well, Andrew Cunningham said it, too, in Apple’s new $1,099 iMac is a MacBook Air in a desktop’s body, on Ars Technica: “The 2013 iMac isn’t getting an upgrade – there’s just a new cheaper, slower model in town.”

Apple isn’t upgrading the iMac family today, but it is making the family a little bigger. The company is now offering a new $1,099 entry-level model that includes most of the perks of the 21.5-inch model introduced last year–the same unibody aluminum enclosure, 1080p screen, port layout, 8GB of RAM, and 802.11ac Wi-Fi adapter–but takes a significant step backward with CPU and GPU speed.

While the $1,299 model gets you a quad-core, 2.7GHz Core i5-4570R and Intel’s best integrated GPU (the Iris Pro 5200), the $1,099 model comes with a dual-core 1.4GHz Core i5-4260U and Intel’s third-best integrated GPU (the HD 5000). This is the exact same processor included in the speed-bumped MacBook Airs that Apple introduced in April.

Were You at the Meeting Last Night?

If not, tsk, tsk, tsk!!! You missed a lot more interesting Apps & Traps and presentation stuff.

At Coco’s, we had cows mooing on the plate (would I kid you about a thing like that?), programming languages back to FORTRAN, and iOS 8 and Yosemite for dessert.

That’s my story; I’m sticking to it!
