InfoManager for Monday, May 19th, 2014

After we started bouncing for posts over 17K, we trimmed the InfoManager back to less than 17K (a couple of years ago).

Now, InfoManager bounced because it was over 12K.

So, here’s a verion under 12K that hopefully will not bounce:

We invite your participation. It’s a far-reaching battle front – one that will be lost without a consumer movement. User groups are the front-line defense and should be mobilized to act.

Savesm 1.0 [save-some] for iPhone enables retail customers to request a deal you want and save at any local business location. Why wait for a sale or promotion or holidays… or collecting coupons, when you can submit your best offer for any product or service? 04 Counting Together released for iPhone and iPad

Counting Together, for the iPhone and iPad, is a groundbreaking “edu-tainment” app that helps children learn the critical skill of Subitzing – which means recognizing how many objects a person is looking at without actually counting them. The ability to subitize is fundamental, and underpins many aspects of a child’s early learning. See the video!

05 Google privacy ruling is just the thin end of a censorship wedge

Sooner or later, every argument about regulation of the Internet comes down to the same question: is this the thin end of the wedge or not? We saw a dramatic illustration last week when the European court of justice handed down a judgment on a case involving a Spanish lawyer, one Mario Costeja Gonzelez, who objected that entering his name in Google’s search engine brought up embarrassing information about his past (that one of his properties had been the subject of a repossession).

10 After European Court Decision, Google Works on a Tool to Remove Links

Google will announce by the end of the month a mechanism for consumers to request that links to information about them be removed from the company’s search engine, a leading European regulator said on Thursday. It was one of the first signs that Google was working through how to operate after a court ruling said consumers could make such requests.

13 Government not meeting cyber security expectations

Actions to change some of the National Security Agency’s surveillance practices after the leaks of classified documents by contractor Edward Snowden are falling short of what many private cyberexperts want. Top government experts told the Reuters Cybersecurity Summit this week they would be more transparent about spying activity. Nongovernment guests, however, said the administration wasn’t doing enough to advance Internet security.

14 QUOTES: The Internet

A lot of people who have been trying to take this authority [Internet Oversight] away from the U.S. want to do it for the sole purpose of cracking down on Internet freedom and limiting it and having governments protect their backsides instead of empower their people.
– Bill Clinton, March, 2014

Critics voiced significant doubts about the fitness of ICANN to operate without U.S. oversight and beyond the bounds of U.S. law. This is a purely political bone that the U.S. is throwing, ICANN has made a lot of mistakes, and ICANN has not really been a good steward.
– Garth Bruen, a security fellow at the Digital Citizens Alliance

People could be walking around anywhere and pick up their e-mail.
– Steve Jobs in a 1983 speech.
