Upcoming Mac and iPad Classes at Di-No

Di-No LogoDi-No Computers, in Pasadena, hosts a rotating set of Mac classes on Tuesdays from 2:00p to 3:30p; and iPad classes on the first and third Mondays of each month, also from 2:00p to 3:30p. These classes are all no-cost; feel free to contribute to the tip jar, though, if you feel so moved! The schedule for the next four weeks is as follows:

29 Oct 2013 Mac Play This class will focus on iMovie
4 Nov 2013 iPad Basics This class will focus on the essentials of the iPad: gestures, settings, and using basic apps
5 Nov 2013 Intro to Mavericks This class will focus on an intro to the new OS X 10.9 Mavericks
12 Nov 2013 Navigating the Interface This class focuses mainly on organizing files and dealing with the Finder. Subject to change…
18 Nov 2013 iPad Basics This class will focus on Mail, Contacts, and Calendar

Macworld HELP DESK 10.11.2013

It’s coming, it’s coming, and if you’re holding your breath and counting the microseconds, get cracking on Get(ting) your Mac ready for Mavericks (OS X 10.9)! And you might be surprised to discover that your Mac very well might be able to run Mavericks (I was   ;-).

You heard it here first, folks: Actually, you do need to share your passwords. To quote from the article, “No one stays healthy forever. At some point, your loved ones will need access to all of your accounts. You can make that job easier for them.…”

I don’t have any iDevices capable of running iOS 7, so I can’t say, but Nancy Solomon and the terrible, horrible, no good, very bad Calendar has set me on a Calendar-replacement mission. Have one to recommend?

President’s Message

As we enter into the final quarter of 2013, we have seen the recent release of several new Apple products and iPhones, the new iOS 7, and are anticipating the new OS, Mavericks (10.9), later this month. And, with the holidays just around the corner, we are presented with numerous new options for updating our personal computing and communications and finding appropriate gifts for our friends and relatives.  

However, all these new products and operating systems also bring with them many questions: Which of the new models will best fulfill my needs? Should I upgrade my iOS, or OS, now or wait until “the dust settles?”  What should I get for _______?

At our regular monthly meetings, our Q&A session, David Whitby’s Apps & Traps,  and our featured presentations provide answers to many of these questions and help you to achieve the optimal benefit from the new products and OS releases.

We invite you to join us at the Pasadena Library on the third Monday of every month, at 7:00 p.m. Our October 21st meeting will focus on the most recent iPhone and iOS releases. On November 18th, we will look at the new OS – 10.9 – and also discuss options for including Apple- and Macintosh-related items on your holiday gift lists.
