Who Are You and What Do You Do?

At The Sweet Setup:

In this series, we post a new interview with someone about what software they use on their Mac, iPhone, or iPad. We do these interviews because not only are they fun, but a glimpse into what tools someone uses and how they use those tools can spark our imagination and give us an idea or insight into how we can do things better.

Today’s victim, er, interviewee:

I’m Tiffany, and I am a software engineer from Swatara Twp, PA.

You can catch Tiffany’s complete story here: Tiffany White’s Mac, iPhone, and iPad Development Setup.

“Back issues” can be found here: Sweet Setup Interviews.

Did You Know?

i stands for what??

Did you ever wonder what the i in the various iDevice names stands for? Have you heard from someone/somewhere? Well, here’s an answer:

There’s actually more than one meaning!

…Your first guess might be “Internet”, since the iPhone’s claim to fame is its ability to access the Web. Or maybe you think it means “I”, as in the personal pronoun “I”, since you can personalize your smartphone with the apps and features of your choice. But you’ll be surprised to know that there is not one but five different I-words that the “I” in iPhone represents.

Stumbled across this piece on Reader’s Digest (of all places!). Meghan Jones mentions the five in This Is What the “I” in iPhone Stands for.

Interesting!

Today’s victim, er, interviewee:

I work at a large Canadian telecom and technology solution provider as part of corporate communications. I lead a team that supports and builds out our intranet (and other communication tools) so that communicators can run campaigns and get messaging to our distributed team.

I’m also a podcaster, co-hosting Nested Folders alongside Rosemary Orchard, where we talk about our approaches and ways of managing productivity and personal effectiveness, and I blog about topics like this, too.

Lastly, I’m a husband, a father of three, and a keeper of two dogs, so even if I get my own stuff in order, theres’ always plenty of other things to be done!

December 21st General Meeting

We are NOT meeting this month

We were hoping to have our holiday party this time around, but couldn’t quite figure out how to make the yummy treats and drinks available over Zoom…

We are, of course, hoping to see y’all at the January 2021 meeting, same Bat time, same Bat channel.

So have a Merry Christmas, Happy Chanukah, Joyous Kwanzaa, and a celebratory Solstice, and we’ll see you then!

Were You at the Meeting Last Night?

If not, we’ll be having a better Christmas! ;-). Besides other new stuff, there was a lot about Apple Watch and VPNs, and a great Q&A.

At the Meeting after the Meeting, we heard about/talked about movies, having to use a DVD player, laser discs, Blade Runner versions, and Blu-ray.

That’s my story; I’m sticking to it!

New Apple Gear

The announcement of a new personal computer is rarely a big deal. In most cases, new laptops are perhaps a little faster, a little lighter and have a tad more battery life than their predecessor. But the three new PCs that Apple announced on Tuesday – two laptops and a desktop – are using a new Apple-designed chip that the company is billing as a game-changer.

Review units are not yet available and unlike pre-pandemic Apple events, journalists were not at the announcement in-person, so I haven’t seen or touched the new machines, but they’re worthy of a column both from a business and technology perspective.…

So reports Larry Magid, in The Merc, today. Adding the business perspective makes it really interesting.

For the whole deal, PYBT: Larry Magid: Apple ushers in a new era for the Mac.

Were You at the Meeting Last Night?

If not, you missed out on some interesting hints on Apple homes, and just how splendidly iPhone 12s mesh and meld into that.

At the Meeting after the Meeting, it was all about getting older versions of MacOS, a bit of politics, old/no longer available e-mail addresses, AppleLink Personal Edition, CompuServe, SCSI drives, 5G cellular issues, Netflix & Disney, Hogan’s Heroes. Seriously! Would I lie about a thing like that?

That’s my story; I’m sticking to it!
