Pasadena Library Update – Closure

From the City of Pasadena’s Web site:

CITY ANNOUNCES CLOSURE OF PASADENA CENTRAL LIBRARY DUE TO SEISMIC SAFETY ISSUES

On Monday, May 3, the City of Pasadena Building Official ordered the closure of Pasadena Central Library, located at 285 E. Walnut St, until further notice. View the order. In-person library services recently resumed on a part-time basis following the county’s move into the less-restrictive orange tier. However, a recent structural assessment conducted as part of the scope of work for the Central Library Building Systems and Structural Assessment Capital Improvement Project revealed that most of the building is comprised of unreinforced masonry (URM) bearing walls that support concrete floors and walls.

The Board had been hoping to be able to start public General Meetings soon, back at the library, but fortune does not seem to be smiling on that at the moment.

Never fear; we will be continuing our Zoom meetings. We are actively researching substitute/replacement locations, so we’ll be ready to open the doors as soon as we are able.
