Please join us at 7pm on July 19, 2010 for our monthly general meeting.

The new iPhone 4 is here! We will have a special presentation by Billy Chang, highlighting some of the phones new features, including the hi-res screen and improved camera features. We will also touch on some of the controversies surrounding the new phone – it will certainly be a lively discussion

David Whitby will continue with our popular Tips n Tricks series. David will share worthwhile and enjoyable new ways to get more out of your iPad – great if you just acquired one, and very enticing if you are weighing the merits of these little wonders.

Billy and David will share the stage for a discussion and analysis of the hot new Mac Mini – the most powerful and value-packed Mini yet released. For many users, the new Mini can form the nucleus of a home computer and media entertainment system – learn how.

We will also offer our regular monthly features, including Q&A and our fabulous monthly prize drawing. Don’t forget, members receive one free ticket for our drawing. When you bring guests you get another free ticket for each guest you bring.

June General Meeting

Apple’s World Wide Developer’s Conference is being held this month June 7-11. With Steve Jobs doing the Keynote Presentation, there’s bound to be new product announcements like the new iPhone to go with iPhone OS 4.

We’ll be discussing the new iPhone, the new OS, and anything else Apple announces at WWDC. We’ll also be having our standard Tips n Tricks and other monthly features.

Apple announces iPhone OS 4.0

Just less than a week after releasing the Wi-Fi version of the iPad, Apple announces iPhone OS 4.

As listed on Apple’s Web site http://www.apple.com/iphone/preview-iphone-os/ –

Get a sneak peek into the future of iPhone OS.

On April 8, Apple unveiled plans for the biggest and most exciting iPhone software update yet. iPhone OS 4 will include over 100 new user features for iPhone and iPod touch owners to enjoy. And for developers, a new software development kit (SDK) offers over 1500 new APIs to create apps that are even more powerful, innovative, and amazing.

iPhone OS 4 will ship this summer for iPhone and iPod touch, and for iPad in the fall. A developer beta is available now.

Among the 1500 new APIs and 100 new features are –

Multitasking (run multiple apps at the same time)
Folders (for better organization and screen use)
iBooks (the iPad bookstore comes to the iPhone)
iAd (Apple enters the advertising ring for in App ads)

Just like iPhone OS 3.0’s Voice Control and digital compass, some features won’t work on all iPhones. For example, multitasking will only work on the iPhone 3GS and iPod Touch 3rd Gen (late 2009) 32 and 64 GB models.

Valve bringing Steam to Mac

For those of you who use your Mac for work only may not have heard of the entertainment software company called Valve but if you play or have played any type of FPS (First Person Shooter) you may have heard of them. The company whose “library” includes Half-Life and Counter-Strike announced on March 8th that they are bring their popular Steam client to the Mac and quote …

We are treating the Mac as a tier-1 platform so all of our future games will release simultaneously on Windows, Mac, and the Xbox 360. Updates for the Mac will be available simultaneously with the Windows updates. Furthermore, Mac and Windows players will be part of the same multiplayer universe, sharing servers, lobbies, and so forth. We fully support a heterogeneous mix of servers and clients.
